$7.2 Million. Funded with City of Dearborn Building Authority Bonds, with bonds being retired from Court revenue.

35,576 Square feet. Includes: Two new courtrooms, large jury assembly area, a law library, two jury deliberation rooms, judges' chambers, holding cells for prisoners, prosecutor office-conference area, lawyer-client conference rooms.

Existing Area

5,570 Square feet. Includes: Two courtrooms served by auxiliary offices and jury deliberation rooms.

Exterior

Pre-cast concrete panels replace former glazed brick façade.

Mural

12 x 40 – foot mural, created by Robert Schefman, and located in rotunda entrance, made possible through a $30,000 grant by Sisson Foundation.

Atrium 1

Plantings, water fall, pond jointly funded by Building Authority Bonds and Rotary Club of Dearborn ($25,000).

Atrium 2

Plantings, pond jointly funded by Building Authority Bonds and Just for Dearborn ($5,000).

Donated by Dearborn Business and professional Women's Organization.

Misc. Data

Ground breaking, February 7, 1996.

Majority of staff moved into new space on Memorial Day Weekend, 1997. Judge Sobotka, her staff and part-time magistrates operated out of temporary quarters in Henry Ford Centennial Library until renovation of former court area was completed in late 1997.

Of Note

19th District Court has three judges, three part-time magistrates, 35 fulltime employees and 18 part-time employees.

Annual caseload is approximately 70,000

2005-06 Budget is $3,200,000.
