Daylight-Saving Time starts

Press Releases

clock2Daylight-Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14 – the time to "spring forward" by turning clocks ahead one hour.
It is also the time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors.
That's the advice that the Dearborn Fire Department offers to homeowners to increase your family's chances of escaping safely in the event of a house fire or a gas leak.
Safety experts say it's a good plan to replace the batteries in battery-operated home smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors at the same time that you change your clocks.
A working smoke detector doubles the chance of surviving a fire. It's critical to test your smoke detectors regularly and to replace the batteries in battery-operated units at least once every six months, as well as in battery-operated carbon monoxide detectors.
Safety experts also recommend replacing any smoke detector that is about 10 years old. They may no longer work, or not work at an optimal level.
For more information, call the Dearborn Fire Department at 313.943.2217.
