Cornhole Tournament returns to Dearborn Homecoming festival Aug. 4-6

Teams can win cash prizes at popular lawn gameCornhole warmup

Once again, the City of Dearborn is teaming up with Michigan Cornhole to bring a Cornhole Tournament to the Homecoming Festival on Saturday, Aug. 5.

Widely popular at tailgate events and other parties across the Midwest, cornhole is an American lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn (or beans) at a raised platform with a hole at the far end.

The tournament will begin at noon on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Ford Field Park, 22051 Cherry Hill.

Tournament players must be 18 years of age or older and team up with a partner. Cost is $25 per person or $50 for a two-person team.

This year, there will be two divisions that players may choose to play in: social and competitive.

There will be cash prizes for the first, second and third place.

Players are able to register until 10:30 a.m. the day of the tournament. Check in for the tournament also ends at 10:30 a.m. Registration must be completed online at dearborntheather.com (a $2 online fee per registration will apply); by phone at 313-943-2354; or in person Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Michael A. Guido Theater Box Office, 15801 Michigan Ave.

Michigan Cornhole has been bringing people together via cornhole gameplay for six years. The group sells boards, bags, and other merchandise in addition to hosting social and competitive bar leagues and tournaments throughout the state.

Dearborn’s 2017 Homecoming festival takes place Aug. 4-6, 2017 and includes live music, great food, family activities, reunions, a carnival, and – a crowd favorite – a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday and Sunday nights.

This year, like last year, will focus on wellness, nutrition, and activities, to promote the initiatives of Healthy Dearborn, a broad-based coalition of community partners.

To that end, Homecoming will also again feature a 5K and Family Fun Run on Sunday morning, (register at http://triviumracing.com/event/dearborn-homecoming-5k-2/) and a free Healthy Dearborn Family Bike Ride on Saturday.
