Dearborn is proud to be a Tree City USA for almost 30 years, but disposing of leaves from those trees is a big job.
The best way to ensure your leaves are picked up promptly is to put them in yard waste paper bags or 20-32 gallon containers with a City yard waste sticker. Set the containers out on your regular trash collection day for pick up that day.
Alternatively, the city does offer loose leaf collection. This year, that collection is scheduled to run from Oct. 23 to Dec. 8. Leaves raked into the street will be collected on your Public Service Days (trash days); however, crews probably will not be able to cover the entire district each week.

Residents may also call the Leaf Hotline at 313-943-2444 to learn more about expected collection locations.
Extra collections won’t force you to rake your leaves early
There may be times when additional crews are out on weekends, or a day ahead of a trash day, to get an early start in a district. If that occurs, these are additional collections and will not change the published schedule. Crews will return to the area on your scheduled day.
You can rake your leaves into the street the day before your trash day, and don’t have to hurry to rake your leaves when you see crews in your neighborhood on an unexpected day.
Reduce danger: Don’t rake leaves into the street too early
Raking leaves into the street too soon leads to dangerous driving conditions and leaves that blow back onto neighbors’ yards.
Contractors paid by residents to rake leaves must follow the same rules.
In addition, parked vehicles must be removed from the streets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a neighborhood’s Public Service Day.
Following this process makes it easier for crews to pick up leaves and keeps streets clean and safe.
More details about bagged leaf collection
Yard waste bags or containers should be on your easement by 7 a.m. on your trash day each week, along with your other items for pick up.
Yard waste stickers are available at the Dearborn libraries and Dearborn Administrative Center.
Leaves in plastic bags or in cardboard boxes will not be picked up.
