Utopian Visions
Four female artists, living and working in various locations on the
globe, come together to explore the concept of a perfect world, each
with her own unique vision and style. Works by Rima Al-Awar (North Carolina/Toronto,
Canada), Rana Chalabi (Cairo, Egypt), Roula Ayoub (Beirut, Lebanon)
and Emna Zghal (Tunis, Tunisia/New York, New York) will be on display
in the Museum’s Main Floor Gallery. Abstract and figural works,
along with projected images, will pique viewers’ imaginations
and encourage them to consider their own utopian visions and record
them on a gallery wall. Free with Museum admission.
9/13/08 – 11/16/08
SURA Arts Academy Student Photography Exhibition
See more than 50 colors photos by middle school-aged students from
southwest Detroit who learned to see the cultural diversity in their
community in a new way, through the camera lens. SURA is an award-winning
free digital photography program based at the AANM, with a sister program
in Amman, Jordan. Students learn photography skills from professional
instructors and then use those skills on field trips designed to expose
the students to the various ethnicities and cultures in their community.
The program culminates in this annual public exhibition. Free with Museum
admission.
