Share your favorite Camp Dearborn
story and be part of its 60th anniversary celebration
Camp Dearborn turns 60 this year and the public’s invited to
the party that takes place on Saturday, July 19, to mark the moment.
For countless people across metro Detroit, Camp Dearborn is a place
of great memories – from times of fun in the sun to summer jobs
to meeting that special someone. Now, you’re invited to share
your favorite Camp Dearborn story as part of the 60th anniversary
celebration.
What do you love best about Camp Dearborn? What’s your favorite
Camp memory? Did you meet your spouse there? Did you spend an unforgettable
summer working there?
Everyone’s invited to share your favorite Camp Dearborn story.
Please limit your story to a maximum of 500 words and email it to
rcoble@ci.dearborn.mi.us.
(Email submissions only are accepted.)
Stories will be posted on the special Camp Dearborn anniversary celebration
page of the City of Dearborn’s website, www.cityofdearborn.org,
where others can read your story and you can read theirs.
And whether you share your story or not, remember that the public
is invited to the July 19 celebration. And if you’ve never been
there, this is a great way to discover one of metro Detroit’s
true recreation gems.
Opened in 1948, Camp Dearborn is unique: a 626-acre recreation and
camping oasis that’s located in Milford but owned by the City
of Dearborn and open to the public.
A highlight of the July 19th anniversary celebration will be music
from The Reflections from 6-10 p.m. at an old-fashioned Canteen dance.
Members of both the Michigan Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the group has recorded top
hits like (Just Like) Romeo & Juliet, Poor Man’s Son, Shabby
Little Hut and Like Columbus Did.
The celebration will include a wide variety of activities. Some of
them are: a classic car festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., tours of
Tent Village, Camp employee reunion events, a corn roast, picnic food
and ice cream, reunions of couples who met at Camp and a photo display
of Camp’s history at the Chalet.
