Classes on the basics of computers, and popular computer services and programs, offered at Dearborn’s Henry Ford Centennial Library

Dearborn’s Henry Ford Centennial Library is offering a series of classes this winter related to the basics of computers and popular computer programs and services. Classes being offered include:

  • Basic Computers.
  • Digital Camera Basics.
  • Introduction to Ebay.
  • Introduction to Email.
  • Introduction to the Internet (there are two classes offered, a basic class and a second class for more advanced users).

  • Introduction to Microsoft Excel (there are two classes offered, a basic class and a second class for more advanced users).

  • Introduction to Microsoft Word (there are two classes offered, a basic class and a second class for more advanced users).

    Some classes are free. Others require a $15 fee, payable in cash at the door. Each class is one afternoon or evening in duration. Classes will be offered on various dates in April, May, June and July. Registration is required to attend any class. See below for registration information.

  • BASIC COMPUTERS – For those who want to learn how to use a computer for the first time. No experience required. The class is free. Choose from these session dates and times: Tuesday, April 29, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class starts April 22); or Tuesday, June 3, from 2-4:30 p.m. (registration for this class starts May 27).

  • BASIC DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY – This class will introduce students to the basics of using a digital camera’s features, cropping and editing pictures and sharing photos online. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Students are not required to bring their own cameras with them. There will be one session of this class offered: from 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29.. Registration for it begins July 22.

  • INTRODUCTION TO EBAY – Learn the basics of this popular online auction website. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Wednesday, May 14, from 1-3 p.m. (registration for this class begins May 7); or Wednesday, June 11, from 1-3 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 4).

  • INTRODUCTION TO EMAIL – For those who want to learn how to set up and use an email account. The class is free. Choose from these session dates and times: Thursday, June 5, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins May 29); or Tuesday, June 24, from 4-6:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 17).

  • INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNET I – For those who already have basic computer skills and want to learn how to use and search the internet. This class is free. Choose from these session dates and times: Thursday, May 1, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins April 24); or Thursday, June 26, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 19).

  • INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNET II – This workshop is more advanced than the Introduction to the Internet I class. It is recommended that students take the Internet I class before taking this class. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Thursday, May 8, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins May 1); or Thursday, July 17, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins July 10).

  • INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL I – Basic computer and mouse skills required. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Tuesday, June 10, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 3); or Tuesday, July 22, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins July 15).

  • INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL II – This workshop is more advanced than the Introduction to Excel I class. It is recommended that students take the Excel I class before taking this class. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Thursday, June 12, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 5); or Thursday, July 24, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins July 17).

  • INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT WORD I – An introductory course on this popular word processing program. Basic computer mouse skills required. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Tuesday, May 13, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins May 6); or Tuesday, June 17, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 10).

  • INTRODUCTION TO MICROSOFT WORD II – This workshop is more advanced than the Introduction to Word I class. It is recommended that students take the Word I class before taking this class. The cost of the class is $15 per person, payable in cash at the door. Choose from these session dates and times: Thursday, May 15, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins May 8); or Thursday, June 19, from 6-8:30 p.m. (registration for this class begins June 12).

REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION

To register for any of these classes, or for more information, visit or call the library’s adult reference desk at 313.943.2330. Classes are limited to twelve seats per session, so it is recommended that you register early.

Dearborn residents and library cardholders will receive preferential registration; nonresidents will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified shortly before the class date if any seats are still available. Please specify class name and date when you register.

All classes will meet in the training room on the first floor (southwest corridor) of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Avenue. Signs will be posted in the lobby to direct you.
