The Department of Finance includes three divisions: Treasury, Purchasing and Accounting. The department is responsible for developing the City budget, as well as facilitating the budget process with the Mayor and City Council. It also serves as the central billing and collection service for City bills for taxes and other assessments; processes payroll and administers employee benefits for all the city employees and retirees; and oversees all purchasing for the City.

The Dearborn Fire Department provides protection fire suppression services, paramedic level emergency medical care, fire prevention, public education, fire investigation, emergency management and hazardous material/rescue operations for 27.3 square miles and nearly 110,000 residents. These services are provided by 128 full-time firefighters at four fire stations throughout Dearborn and one in Melvindale.


Historical Museum

The Dearborn Historical Museum consists of two properties, providing educational opportunities to school groups and the general public regarding Dearborn's rich history. The McFadden-Ross House serves as the main exhibition space, and houses all museum archives. Behind it is the Gardner House, which provides a look at life in Dearborn in simpler times. The Commandant's Quarters displays period furnishings and a scale model of the old Arsenal grounds. The museum's facilities also serve as home to two dozen social and civic groups through the Museum Guild of Dearborn.

The Department of Law is vested with exclusive authority and jurisdiction in all matters of law relating to the city government and every department, bureau, office, institution, commission, committee, board and other agency thereof. As chief legal counsel for the City of Dearborn, the Corporation Counsel is responsible for providing legal counsel to the Mayor and the Dearborn City Council.

The mission of the Dearborn Public Library is to provide a broad range of effective, courteous, quality services and a balanced collection of materials for the educational, informational, and recreational needs of the community. The department provides these services at three city-run public libraries: The Henry Ford Centennial Library, the Bryant branch and the Esper branch.

The Innovation & Technology department oversees all internal and external communication equipment for the City, including phones, computers and radios. The department also coordinates a multiple-year planning process to provide the appropriate technology and project planning support to all departments.  The department works, as part of the City Department Initiative (CDI) Technology group, to ensure technology initiatives provide needed services with the proper return on investment.

Dearborn is governed by a Mayor and seven-member City Council. The Mayor interacts daily with the public and works with the City Council and City department heads to ensure the continuance of Dearborn's high level of public service, as well as maintaining the City budget. The Mayor's Office also handles many requests from individuals and groups within the city, such as arranging for the Mayor to speak at or attend an event.

Property Maintenance and Development Services (PMDS) Department (formerly Residential Services) is the primary agency for maintaining the appearance and condition of neighborhoods and business districts. This includes performing inspections on homes, trash, recycling and yard waste removal, assisting with issuance of residential permits, as well as resolving neighborhood ordinance issues.
