Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin released the following statement Saturday morning regarding an incident in which a male subject driving a dark red minivan approached two children on the 4700 Block of Williamson Street. Video footage circulating on social media shows the subject opening the van’s automatic sliding door shortly after the children, ages 4 and 11, retreated to their residence.

“We have identified the individual in the video and conducted multiple interviews with him about the incident. Based on these conversations and a preliminary investigation of all the facts, it does not appear that any criminal action took place. Especially in incidents involving children, we use all investigative tools at our disposal to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods, and we will update the community if anything changes.”
