Free reading tutor training to be offered in Dearborn through local literacy non-profit We Shall Read
In partnership with We Shall Read, a local non-profit organization, the Dearborn Public Library invites residents to apply for one of 30 scholarships to become a skilled reading tutor through the MentorMe! reading training program.
The 12-week, 30-hour in-person training program will take place at the Henry Ford Centennial Library beginning Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024. Sessions will be held on most Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at no cost to trainees. The program is sponsored, in part, by the Dearborn Rotary Club.
The course will equip participants with a tailored curriculum for literacy tutors and includes coaching on managing a small business, and provides tutors with a dedicated curriculum. Trainees will also receive support from an assigned mentor, weekly group coaching calls, and social media groups. Library staff will also be equipped to provide presentations on various library resources that will enrich the tutors in supporting their students.
