The City of Dearborn is preparing to make key updates to its Master Land Use Plan, a policy document used by elected and appointed community leaders to guide land-use decisions across the city including those impacting transportation, development, recreation, the economy, natural resources, and arts and culture.

Today, the City is launching PlanDearborn.org, an online resource and community survey for those who live, work, learn, and play in Dearborn to offer insight and receive regular notifications about the project.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud stated, “This is a unique opportunity to engage in crafting policy in the City of Dearborn. The Master Land Use Plan sets important development goals for our city for the next five to ten years. I encourage the community to lend their feedback and help us draft this plan from the ground up.”

Community members are invited to help kick off the planning process by taking a short survey, which is offered in both English and Arabic through mid-March. Responses to the survey will help inform the design and land-use process.

The City will also collect community feedback at a series of neighborhood listening sessions, which are scheduled to begin in May. Professional Arabic interpreters will be available at all project events.

Mayor Hammoud added, “We hope our residents and businesses join us in laying the foundation for future equitable development and inform important decisions that impact their neighborhoods and built environment.”

To ensure that community feedback is accurately recorded and received, the City of Dearborn will hire five Dearborn residents to serve as contracted Community Ambassadors to connect with Dearbornites daily about the Master Land Use Plan.

Dearborn Director of Economic Development, Jordan Twardy, stated, “We are being very intentional about getting out into the community, in place of asking the community to come to us. We encourage everyone to sign up for updates on our website to stay up to date and informed about the progress of the overall plan and for information about being a Community Ambassador.”

More information about the Master Land Use Plan, community input sessions, and the Community Ambassadors program is available at PlanDearborn.org. Those who sign up for updates via the project website will also receive personal invitations to participate in activities, including the upcoming listening sessions.
