Wasps and bees are beneficial insects, but they are also considered pests because of their ability to sting. Wasps, in particular, can become a problem in autumn when they may disrupt many outdoor activities.

Residents with a problematic insect nest in a tree on their easement should call 313-943-2099 to request City assistance. A Residential Services representative will inspect the site and decide on further action such as insecticide spraying and/or removal.

The City does NOT remove nests on private property. If the nest needs to be removed, seek help from qualified personnel at a pest control company.

To help keep bees, wasps and hornets away from your surroundings:

• Do not leave fallen fruit and food debris lying around.
• Make sure that trash cart lids are closed.
• Do not keep uneaten pet food outside.
• Remove standing water from your property.
