The Dearborn Police Explorer Post 1177 was established in 1968 and is run and facilitated by the Training and Development Office. Members are comprised of young volunteers from the ninth grade through the age of 21. They attend weekly meetings and training at the police department. Each individual in the Post does approximately 500 hours of community service during the year. Active recruitment at area high schools and special events maintain the Post’s membership.

The Post does fundraising and accepts donations to go toward the Post’s activities and events. These funds were to be used to attend the 2020 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was canceled. The Post has furthered a relationship with The Henry Ford over FY2020, where they make donations to the Post for assisting at its many special events as well.
