Whenever a residential or commercial property transfers ownership in Dearborn, a Property Transfer Affidavit form is required to be filed with the Assessor's Office within 45 days of the transfer.
If it is not filed on time, the property owner is subject to a penalty.
The assessor reviews this form to ensure the property is assessed properly and given the correct taxable value for the year following the transfer of property.
The property transfer affidavit does not change the name and mailing address on the tax bills. A Change of Tax and Water Bill Name and Mailing Address form must be completed and returned to the Assessor's office.
