The City of Dearborn Housing Department and Dearborn Housing Commission provide housing options for our Senior population.
The Dearborn Housing Department provides housing for "moderate income" seniors 55 years and older. Hubbard Manor East located at 5500 Calhoun has 137 one bedroom apartments and Hubbard Manor West located at 22077 Beech Street has 214 one bedroom apartments. Rents are extremely affordable and include heat, air conditioning, water, and electricity. Apartments include neutral decor including carpet, vertical blinds, private balconies, electric ranges and refrigerators, and built-in dressers in the bedroom. The Dearborn Housing Commission provides housing options for "low income" seniors, handicapped and disabled persons subject to regulation by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Apartments at Townsend Towers located at 7000 Freda include 79 one and two bedroom units for handicapped, disabled and elderly households. Kennedy Plaza located at 5111 Bingham offers 119 one bedroom units for elderly and handicapped persons. Located at 1515 Mason Street, Sisson Manor offers 135 units for elderly and handicapped persons.
Rents at federally subsidized buildings are generally 30 % of the household income and include heat, water and electricity. Apartments include neutral decor including carpet, vertical blinds, private balconies, electric ranges and refrigerators, and most units have built-in dressers in the bedroom.
Preference is always given for Dearborn residents. Applicants for Hubbard Manor East and West must be 55 years old. Preference is also given for applicants 62 years and older at Kennedy Plaza and Sisson Manor. Near elderly applicants (50 years and over) for federally subsidized properties are encouraged to apply, but are processed after elderly residents. Housing is subject to the eligibility requirements for the applicable program and include, among other things, criminal background checks.
