Tree Trimming and Removal
There are approximately 35,000 curbside trees in Dearborn. These trees are trimmed on a five-year cycle to remove deadwood and for overhead clearance. Neighborhoods are notified prior to trimming. When the City determines an easement tree must be removed, there is no charge to the homeowner.
Residents and contractors are prohibited from trimming and removing City trees. All tree planting on City easements must be performed or approved by the City.
If you are a resident who has had a tree removed and are due for a free replacement, do not order online! Please call 313-943-2107 to confirm you are on the free planting list.
Trees on Private Property
Trees located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner, including trimming, planting and removal. Property owners must request a tree removal permit before removing a tree from their property.
Any tree that is removed from private property must be replaced by the person granted the removal permit, as outlined by City Ordinance.
Residents can check to see all permits issued for tree removal.
